2020 Prison Challenges

In March 2020, prisons in Georgia --and around the country--shut their doors to family members and organizations in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Children have not been able to hug their parents since March. No newborn has snuggled against her mother's chest. Families have had to pay for every phone call and every email--no interaction is taken for granted.

Families are suffering.

Motherhood Beyond Bars heard--loud and clear-- the pain and fear that parents expressed to us in emails and letters.

We were heartbroken not to be in prison for baby showers, postpartum classes, and childbirth education.

But we're good listeners, and the mothers we've worked with for years told us there was a new path forward. We are excited to tell you more over the next few weeks.

It turns out prison walls can't stop love.
